DKP and Loot Systems: Which One Is Right for Your Guild?

GuildForger Team

Loot distribution causes more guild drama than almost anything else. The right system depends on your guild's culture, size, and goals. Here's a breakdown of the most popular options.

DKP (Dragon Kill Points)

The classic system. Members earn points for attendance and boss kills, spend them on loot. Pros: Transparent, rewards consistency. Cons: Hoarding behavior, doesn't account for item value differences.

EPGP (Effort Points / Gear Points)

Members earn EP for contribution, spend GP for loot. Priority is EP/GP ratio. Pros: Decay prevents hoarding, ratio system is fair. Cons: More complex, requires tracking tools.

Loot Council

Officers decide who gets loot based on performance, attendance, and upgrade value. Pros: Optimizes gear distribution for progression. Cons: Requires trust, can create drama if not handled transparently.

Choosing Your System

  • Casual guilds: Roll-based or simple DKP works fine
  • Progression-focused: Loot council or EPGP for optimization
  • Large guilds: DKP or EPGP for fairness at scale
  • Small tight-knit groups: Loot council with trust
